A CANNABIS COMPANY

A large Canadian cannabis retailer came to PouchMark with frustration about labeling their Mylar bags and pouches with compliance and variable information.

CHALLENGES

The Canadian cannabis market is federally regulated, and strict in its compliance labeling requirements. Weights, THC levels, stacked DataBar codes and warning statements (in both English and French) are just some of the content required on every pouch. This national, multi-facility producer was plagued by the cost of the millions of labels and thousands of man-hours required to apply this variable information to every package.

In addition, the warning statements are required to be pre-printed on pouches but change – by law – every couple of months. So, once a warning statement expires, the remaining pouches in inventory become waste.

POUCHMARK SOLUTIONS

They searched for direct-to-pouch variable printing solutions for more than a year. But the unique construction of mylar cannabis pouches and other materials – namely, thick child-proof double-zippers, a substantial gusset and relatively small size – made consistent feeding (let alone printing) of cannabis pouches virtually impossible. Enter PouchMark.

With the most advanced cannabis pouch-feeding options on the market, and an on-demand print technology that rivals pre-printed quality, PouchMark provided this cannabis leader with four FLOW systems to initiate their move away from pouch labels.

Today the company has moved 100% away from pouch and vape box labels to PouchMark direct-to-pouch variable information printing systems, saving hundreds of thousands of CAD per year in materials and labor.
